Assateague Crab House is the last real crab stop before the ponies. The VanFossen family has run it on Route 611 since 1985. The building sits about a mile north of the Assateague state park entrance. Steamed crabs run medium through jumbo by the dozen at market price. The all-you-can-eat special pairs crabs and fried chicken with corn and coleslaw. No sharing. The crab cakes are billed as Mom's, from a family recipe the house dates back sixty years. Doors open daily at 11 a.m. Google reviewers put it at 4.4 across about 1,300 reviews. That is the best rating of any full crab house in this patch. Early in the season, reviewers complain the all-you-can-eat crabs run small.
